Equal Opportunity Schools is excited to announce our newest addition to the team, John Thurman! John joined us as Chief Finance and Operations Officer in February.
“John brings with him an impressive background and a wealth of experience in finance and operations, making him exceptionally well-prepared to drive forward our mission at EOS,” said Eric Weaver, Board Chairman and Interim CEO.
“John will lead a team focused on improving EOS’ capabilities including resource and financial analysis, operational efficiencies, budgeting, grant compliance, and most importantly, our people and workplace culture,” Weaver continued.
For the past decade, Thurman has managed financial strategy and operations for education nonprofits, cultivating a deep understanding of the industry landscape and a mission-driven approach that perfectly aligns with EOS’ focus on driving student outcomes.
“I’m excited to work with the EOS team and support students in underserved communities,” Thurman said. “Together, we’ll make a meaningful difference in their futures. I look forward to applying my nonprofit finance experience to an organization that’s doing such impactful work.”
Thurman most recently served as Chief Operating Financial Officer at the Center for Civic Education. He previously served as Vice President of Finance at the education nonprofit ExED, and prior to that as Senior National Director at After School All Stars.
Thurman holds a Master of Public Administration in Non-Profit Management and Fund Accounting from California State University, and a Bachelor’s in Political Science from Purdue University. He serves on the board of the Purdue for Life Foundation.
