Edward Lee Vargas

Dr. Vargas serves as AVID’s (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Executive Vice President for National and International Programs. Leveraging a wealth of highly successful multi-state and international leadership experiences, Dr. Vargas provides leadership for creating high-performing school systems grounded in equity and excellence for all. Prior to his role at AVID, Dr. Vargas served as Superintendent of Schools in multiple states and was named State Superintendent of the Year in both California (2006) and Washington State (2014). He is a nationally recognized speaker on leadership for creating high performing school systems grounded in equity and excellence for all, and a distinguished lecturer on “School System Readiness to Transform”. Dr. Vargas has served on EOS’s Board of Directors since July 2017 and was elected Secretary in 2023. He currently chairs the Governance Committee and sits on the Programs & Impact Committee.
