Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, Dr. Valerie Peterson brings her expertise in serving underserved students across the nation to Equal Opportunity Schools. Valerie began her education journey as a first-generation college graduate and teen mom. It is through these personal experiences that led Valerie to work and advocate on behalf of under-represented students across the nation.
Valerie began her career at Chicago Public Schools as a Teacher, Special Projects Coordinator, and a District Manager for the AVID College Readiness System (AVID) implementation in the District. From there she worked directly with AVID Center as a Program Manager and Partner Engagement Manager.
Valerie graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Community Health from Northern Illinois University, A Master of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Roosevelt University in Chicago and a Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership from Argosy University Chicago. Valerie currently resides in Dallas, TX with her dog Logan. Outside of advocating for students, Valerie enjoys traveling, riding hyper coasters and spending time in Manhattan, KS where she visits her two daughters enrolled at Kansas State University.
