Data Management Specialist
Sukhi’s passion for educational equity and empowering students of color stems from her own experiences growing up in a diverse community in Kent. She has always desired to do seva (selfless service) in her community, which inspired her roles as a volunteer at Parkside Elementary, a mentor at Mill Creek Middle School, and an AmeriCorps VISTA at School’s Out Washington. It was through these experiences she realized that serving children and families gave an indescribable meaning to her life.
Prior to joining EOS, Sukhi obtained a graduate degree in Education Policy & Leadership Studies at the University of Washington. Through meaningful conversations with experts and colleagues and interning with the Center on Reinventing Public Education, she is equipped with the knowledge, skills and tools to bring about change in our education system. Her undying passion for educational equity and student empowerment is what brought her to Equal Opportunity Schools, where she stands with its mission of ensuring that students of color and low-income students have equitable access to academically intense high school programs and succeed at the highest levels.
Along with her work at Equal Opportunity Schools, Sukhi currently serves on School’s Out Washington’s Board. She sees value in School’s Out Washington’s continuous efforts to support expanded learning programs and knew she would have benefited from having access to such programs growing up. Moreover, Sukhi volunteers with the Sikh Youth Association to stay connected to her identity and roots.
Sukhi’s down time is best spent at the gym, doing bhangra, or enjoying the outdoors with her family.
