Managing Director, Partnership
Rocio was born in Michoacan, Mexico, grew up in California and then moved to the Midwest. She earned a BA in Sociology from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa and a MA in Latin American Studies from the University of Granada in Granada, Spain. She brings over fourteen years of postsecondary education experience and has worked internationally for the Ministry of Education in Spain.
As she continues to advance in her professional career, it is imperative that she align her values with an organization that reflects them. She was especially drawn to EOS’ vision- “when our highest learning opportunities are equitably accessible, our highest human potential is unbounded”. The vision resonates with her lived experience. In high school, she became keenly aware of the inequities that manifest when socioeconomic and racial factors are at play. As a low-income first-generation Latina immigrant and ESL (English as a Second Language) student, she faced disparities and barriers to educational opportunities that other peers did not. That is why she deeply connects with EOS and looks forward to embodying the mission.
She enjoys traveling the world, chocolate, skydiving, tea, documentaries, treasure hunting at antique shops, and spending quality time with loved ones, especially her fur cat babies Leo and Gio.
