Year One: Build the foundation
Once selected, you’ll be introduced to your Partnership Director, who will support your team throughout the process. In the first year, we will work with you to understand your unique dynamics—and how to engage in critical conversations about race and class, so that teachers, counselors, and administrators are ready to act in service of equitable outcomes for their students. Steps include:
Studying the data. We collect enrollment data and survey all students and staff to better understand the context of access, success, and experiences in AP/IB courses at your school. We provide access to the Equal Opportunity Schools Portal so that you can view that data, track progress, and access equity reports. The Student Insight Card is a powerful tool for our partners, enabling the school’s equity team to see a student’s potential and aspirations, the barriers they face, and staff recommendations.
Developing a set of strategies. We work with you to create a set of strategies to engage and advocate for underrepresented students. We build an Outreach List of students that could benefit from AP/IB classes, using a proprietary method that includes learning mindsets, barriers, staff recommendations, and academic comparability to current AP/IB students. We then help you match those students with the courses that will best align with their interests and support them in making strides towards their academic and career aspirations.
Enroll diverse students in AP/IB classes. By using our tools, along with a dynamic outreach and advocacy plan, our schools ultimately enroll more underrepresented students in their AP/IB programs, offering those students the opportunity to shift their educational trajectory towards increased rigor, engagement, and college access.
Support schools in monitoring success. Through our Equity Pathways Report and presentations to your school, we work with you to explore and identify the key support and sustainability strategies that teachers and underrepresented students need. You will complete a support plan, documenting the strategies you will implement and how you will measure outcomes.
