EOS Celebrates AAPI Heritage Month by paying tribute to Patsy Mink

Today’s AAPI Heritage Month shoutout goes to Patsy Mink. In 1964, Mink was the first woman of color elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. During her decades-long Congressional career, Mink introduced the Early Childhood Education Act, the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and was a co-author for Title IX, a law that advanced gender equity within federal funding policies for education- later renamed the Patsy T. Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act in her honor.

EOS Celebrates AAPI Heritage Month by paying tribute to Dr. Mabel Ping-Hua Lee

Dr. Mabel Ping-Hua Lee was the first Chinese woman to earn a PhD in economics from Colombia University. Dr. Lee originally attended Barnard College, an all-women’s school, that was founded because Colombia, like many universities in 1912, refused to admit women. Triumphant and educated, Dr. Lee published her research as a book called “The Economic History of China” in 1921.

In celebration of #AAPIHeritageMonth, may Dr. Lee’s story encourage you to continue breaking barriers that restrict equal access to the knowledge and dreams that we all deserve.
