EOS Celebrates AAPI Heritage Month by paying tribute to Dr. Mabel Ping-Hua Lee

Dr. Mabel Ping-Hua Lee was the first Chinese woman to earn a PhD in economics from Colombia University. Dr. Lee originally attended Barnard College, an all-women’s school, that was founded because Colombia, like many universities in 1912, refused to admit women. Triumphant and educated, Dr. Lee published her research as a book called “The Economic History of China” in 1921.

In celebration of #AAPIHeritageMonth, may Dr. Lee’s story encourage you to continue breaking barriers that restrict equal access to the knowledge and dreams that we all deserve.

Equal Opportunity Schools: Celebrating Dorothy Height

Women’s History Month is a celebration of women’s contributions to history, culture and society. Equal Opportunity Schools celebrates women of color, like Dorothy Height, the godmother of the women’s movement. Height began her career in New York City as an educator, led the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) for four decades, and advised the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA). In 1994, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
