Montgomery County Public Schools

Scott W. Murphy is the Director of Secondary Curriculum and Districtwide Programs in Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), Maryland, the 14th largest system in the country and the largest in Maryland, with over 165,000 students and 208 schools. Scott leads all secondary curriculum and instruction, professional learning, and several districtwide initiatives including Equal Opportunity Schools.

An administrator in MCPS for 20 years, Mr. Murphy previously served as the principal of Watkins Mill High School in Gaithersburg, Maryland and as principal of William H. Farquhar Middle School, also in MCPS. Mr. Murphy was also an assistant principal at the middle and high school levels, after beginning his career as a special education teacher in Louisiana. Scott was recently named the 2020 recipient of the Dr. Edward Shirley Award for Excellence in Educational Administration and Supervision, a prestigious award presented annually to an MCPS administrator or supervisor who exemplifies outstanding systemwide leadership and accomplishment.
