Campbell Union High School District
German Cerda attended the University of California Santa Barbara, where he earned his BA in Chicano Studies. In 1998, he was hired as a 6th-8th grade ESL teacher at Hollenbeck Middle School in the city of Boyle Heights. In 2002 German was an Assistant Principal SCS at Markham Middle School in the city of Watts. In the summer of 2003, he was hired as the Assistant Principal at a year-round K-12 Span school, Elizabeth Learning Center. In 2006, he became the principal of one of the largest middle schools, South Gate Middle.
In 2009, he became the principal at South Gate Senior High School. He improved the school’s academic performance in ELA/Math State tests, increased graduation rates, implemented restorative justice practices, alternatives to suspension, reduction of suspensions to a low FOUR in a school year, increased AP pass rates in all the content areas. In 2016, German was a secondary instructional director for LAUSD overseeing 18 secondary schools with a total enrollment of 18,000 students. In 2017, he became the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services for Campbell Union High School District, a Basic Aid District. German is responsible for the successful implementation of all facets of the student experience.
