Equity Leader Lab Role Descriptions
The Equity Leader Lab (ELLabs) convenes together, in regional cohorts, Equal Opportunity Schools’ (EOS) partner districts and school Equity Team members to develop and adopt the policies, practices, and mindsets to sustain equity in support of historically marginalized student success. This equity work cannot and will not happen without effective leaders who are committed to the following role expectations:
SUPERINTENDENT
The Superintendent is responsible for the districts decisions, program implementation, and success of students.
SUPERINTENDENT
• Set and share the vision for this work with stakeholders.
• Set and uphold clear expectations for staff.
• Plan with District Lead to ensure adequate allocation of resources to support increased AP/IB participation.
• Make time for check-ins with your Partnership Director (PD) and progress reports from your District Lead.
• Provide feedback and guidance to District Lead, School Principal(s), and School Site Lead(s) when necessary.
• Communicate questions and concerns to your PD.
DISTRICT LEAD
The District Lead could hold a similar title to: Assistant Superintendent, Equity Director, Secondary Education Director, etc. and is the main point of contact between EOS and the district.
DISTRICT LEAD
• Reinforce the vision of the partnership.
• Monitor progress towards partnership goal.
• Schedule monthly meetings with Principals, Site Leads, and PD.
• Serve as liaison between PD and schools, and between schools and district.
• On a regular basis, meet 1:1 with school sites to ensure work is on track.
• On a bi-weekly basis, meet 1:1 with PD.
• Identify the District data lead and facilitate fulfilment of data needs.
• Provide feedback and guidance to School Principal(s) and School Site Lead(s) when necessary.
• Communicate questions and concerns to your PD.
SCHOOL PRINCIPALS
The School Principal has local jurisdiction over their high school.
SCHOOL PRINCIPALS
• Establish a school site lead to manage the process.
• Communicate and reinforce the vision of the partnership to all key stakeholders.
• Work with the PD to establish a clear vision for the work and its importance.
• Work with the PD to establish a staff communication plan.
• Be available for monthly in-person meetings with the PD, and for check-in calls between visits.
• Provide feedback and guidance to School Site Lead(s) and equity team when necessary.
• Communicate questions and concerns to your PD.
SCHOOL EQUITY CHAMPIONS
The School Equity champion could hold a variety of roles, such as: Assistant Principal, IB or AP Coordinator, Curriculum Director, etc. and should be dedicated to addressing the equity and opportunity gaps of their school.
SCHOOL EQUITY CHAMPION
• Participate in crafting an outreach, support and sustainability strategy.
• Create and implement an outreach plan for meeting with and enrolling students.
• Develop Staff & Student Support Plans.
• Provide feedback and guidance to equity team when necessary.
• Communicate questions and concerns to your Equity team and PD.
TEAM MEMBERS
Team members could be Assistant Superintendents, Principals, Counselors, AP Teachers, Data Contacts, or other staff, who are dedicated to ensuring their school and students have equitable opportunities.
Team Members (Assistant Principals, Counselors, AP Teachers)
The Equity Leader Lab team should consist of a variety of district and school level roles and be:
• committed to equity.
• representative of the staff demographics.
• a blend across all academic departments.
• reflective of the schools advanced level course offerings.
